Victorian Petite Lorgnettes
A delightful and rare pendant from the Victorian period. The pendant is a pair of petite lorgnettes that operate on a spring closure. They are made from 9ct gold cased metal and you can pull the little bar at the middle of the centre stem down to unclasp the mechanism. The lorgnettes then spring open for use with a gentle nudge for encouragement to one side. There is a knack to the mechanism, though the lorgnettes do spring out well. I have a video if you would like me to send it. Such a wonderful item and I was thrilled to find these.
The chain pictured is for display only. Care should be exercised when putting the lorgnettes back into position to ensure the correct glass goes on the correct side.
Details:
Materials - 9ct Gold Cased Metal
Age - Victorian
Size - The lorgnettes measure approx 40.5mm long by 19mm wide when closed. When open the glasses part measures approx 44mm wide.
Condition - Very good. Some wear to the gold casing. One of the glass inserts has a little chip to one edge, noted for accuracy only. The ‘lens’ have very little magnification.
Weight - 4.1g
