Victorian Petite Pietra Dura Pendant
A pretty pendant from the late Victorian period, c1890s. The pendant is made from 9ct gold that has a slight rosy tint, as is common of 9ct gold from this period. A lovely oval of pietra dura is set in the plain gold frame. Pietra dura means ‘hard stones’ in Italian and refers to the fashion for inlaying stones in a formation to create a picture. This is a floral design with the hint of a forget-me-not in the background. Such a sweet pendant that could be worn alone or with others.
The pendant will come on a 14kt gold fill chain similar to the one pictured.
Details:
Materials - 9ct Gold (tested), Hard Stones including Onyx & Turquoise
Age - Late Victorian
Size - The pendant measures approx 15mm long excluding the bail by 12mm wide
Condition - Very good. Some very small pieces of hard stone are missing from the pietra dura, namely the tiny centres of the two flowers and a little piece of stem, noted for accuracy only and this does not detract from the piece.
Weight - 2.05g pendant only.
