Victorian 'Pig in Clover' Locket Bracelet

A wonderful and unusual bracelet from the Victorian period. The bracelet is made from 800 silver and is likely German in origin. It carries the initials D.R.G.M, which stands for Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster. This means that the function of an item is registered. It is like a mini patent and was commonly used in place of a full patent, as these were too expensive for many makers to obtain.

This wonderful bracelet is a rare find and has a lovely curb link, which meets at the unusual and decorative clasp at the centre. The clasp opens with a little latch and is on a hinge that expands into three sections. It has a locket within. To the front of the locket is a wonderful depiction of a ‘pig in clover’. This age old saying represents extreme contentment and is based on the fact that clover is one of the favourite foods of a pig. The slip inside the locket can be removed with ease to place your own photo behind and sits securely in place.
