Victorian Shell Locket

sold out

A beautiful and seldom seen locket from the Victorian period, c1890s. The locket is made from 18ct gold and is in the shape of a pretty scallop shell. Each alternate ‘rib’ of the shell has a faceted pattern in the gold and this creates a mild glistening effect across the surface. At the centre is an applied decoration. To my mind, it looks a little like a bouquet with a sapphire ‘flower’ and a bow of seed pearls with a diamond detail at the centre. To the back, there is a little glass covered oval frame that can be slid out and a photo placed inside.

The chain pictured if for display only.

Details:

Materials - 18ct Gold (tested), Sapphire, Diamond, Seed Pearl

Age - Late Victorian

Size - The shell measures approx 21mm square, excluding the bail. The oval back measures around 16mm by 12mm.

Condition - Very good. A little wear commensurate with age. Inside, there is the remainder of lead where the decoration has been fastened on the inside.

Weight - 4.1g
