Victorian Turquoise Ball Vinaigrette Pendant
A wonderful and rare pendant from the late Victorian period, c1900s. The pendant is a spherical vinaigrette. The ball has little natural turquoise set in individual settings all around the outside and are interspersed with little holes. It unscrews at the centre and comes away as two halves. A little bundle of cotton would have been placed inside with some scent on it. When the smells of outdoor life became too much, this would offer some light relief.
The vinaigrette is made from 9ct gold, marked on both sides of the ball and also on the bail. The chain pictured is for display only.
Details:
Materials - 9ct Gold (hallmarked), Turquoise
Age - C1900s
Size - The ball is approx 19.5mm in diameter, excluding the bail.
Condition - Very good. The ball is in good condition for age and use with no obvious dings. Some of the turquoise has been replaced in time, though the overall look is great.
Weight - 6.85g
