Vintage Oblong Carnelian Ring

A wonderful statement ring appearing to be a mix of ages. This particular shape of ring is Georgian and was often seen in the late 18th Century. I feel this is an original Georgian stone that has been reset or re-shanked, likely due to wear to the original elements. It is a beautiful stone and lends itself well to this gorgeous oblong shape. The wonderful piece of carnelian has an unusual sun ray effect within the stone that can be viewed when the light shines from behind. It seems to me that the rays radiate from the deep burnt orange ball in the corner, representing the sun. It is certainly very expressive to my mind. It has been set in a high gold mount and has a simple split shank. The style of the shank is certainly mid to late 20th Century and it was hallmarked in the 1970s, though the date is very difficult to read. The ring makes a stunning statement on the hand and is very comfortable to wear due to the curved back made for the curve of the finger.
