Vintage Qu'Hier Que Demain Ring
A wonderful signet style ring from the mid to late 20th Century. The face of the ring is a gold medallion style front with the familiar phrase ‘+ Qu’Hier - Que Demain’, a line inspired by a French poem that means ‘More than yesterday and less than tomorrow’. The line is taken from a verse written by Rosamonde Gerard in 1907 and was adopted by Alphonse Augis to create his ‘coins of love’. It is unusual to find the rings and this is a good large size. The head of the ring is 18ct gold, though the shank acid tests as 14ct gold meaning that it was likely adapted into a ring at a later date. This has been done expertly.
The ‘+’ is highlighted in white gold and the ‘-’ is set with synthetic rubies as is often the case with these pieces.
